Welcome to the Monster House!

Welcome to Monster House! Many, many years ago we used to decorate our home and yard on Woodlawn in a cemetery theme to scare the kids in the neighborhood Halloween night.
We we're popular for years but gave up the effort after we were threaten by a law suit.

10 Years later, in a moment of inspiration, we decided to resurrect from the grave our haunted house concept and apply it to the Victorian House which still sports the weird orange paint scheme done by the previous owners.

We salvaged the last of the iron fence that survived despite decades of abuse. At one time, it is our understanding that thefence around the house completely dominated the perimeter of the property. We have not found a photograph yet of the exterior of this house at that time. We'd like to see if we can either find the original fence or find a reproduction of this style.

The creative part of this project is the majority of materials came from scrap from the Victorian House. With glue, saw dust, and mixtures of old paint we created a imaginary world that rivaled the stuff at Disney World.

You were greeted, or scared, at the beginning of the side walk by this friendly looking ghoul. The fog machine would blast a blanket of fog that reduced your visibility through out the yard and made it hard to find the front door.

Even in daylight, the scene set was still a bit frightening, but we were a big hit to the kids that visited that night.

We lit the inside of the house with red floods and played haunted house music through the speaker systems that are tied to our security system. When fired up at night, the whole house presented a very spooky persona. If you look in the tower window, you'll see a large lit pumpkin that look right at home way up there.

Some of the strange comments and questions I received were did I kill all the black birds to mount on the fence and tombstones? I explain that they we made of fake feathers over a core of sculptured foam. They looked real.

Next year, I'm going to wire them for sound to chase the adults away. Maybe , if I have time, I'll make them shoot lasers from their eyes.

So all and all, the debut of "Monster House" was a big hit in the neighborhood.

We would welcome any additional information about this house. If you know anything about this house, the neighborhood, or photographs,
